Supervisor Martha Cardenas-Singh made history in November 2024 by becoming the first Latina to serve on the Imperial County Board of Supervisors. A proud daughter of a Vietnam War veteran and hardworking parents, Supervisor Cardenas-Singh grew up in El Centro, where she learned the importance of hard work and developed a strong commitment to advocating for workers' rights and dignity. These formative experiences shaped her belief in the power of government to improve lives and enhance communities. As a community advocate, she focused on advancing workers' rights, securing better wages, and ensuring safer working conditions.

Before her election to the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Cardenas-Singh served on the El Centro City Council from 2020 to 2024, including a term as Mayor in 2022-2023. During her tenure, she led significant community initiatives, including efforts to promote economic development, expand and improve city parks, and champion capital improvement projects like the construction of a new city-owned library and secured funding for a new police station.

On the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Cardenas-Singh has made it a priority to improve local infrastructure, support sustainable growth, and champion affordable housing. She is deeply committed to protecting vulnerable communities and advocating for environmentally sustainable policies. Her current focus is on transportation issues, as she serves on the Imperial County Transportation Commission, working to improve regional transit systems.

In addition to her work at the local government level, Supervisor Cardenas-Singh is an active advocate on a national stage. In January 2025, she was elected to a three-year term on the National Executive Board of Directors for MANA, a national Latina organization focused on mentorship, education, and advocacy for Latinas. She also serves as the 2nd Vice President of Soroptimist of El Centro, a chapter of a global volunteer organization that empowers women through education and economic opportunities. Furthermore, Supervisor Cardenas-Singh is a dedicated board member of ARC Imperial Valley, a nonprofit organization supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities by providing vocational training and employment opportunities.
